I fell in love with photography at an early age. In fact, one of my earliest memories is of a photoshoot my Mum had me do when I was 5 or 6. It was at one of those old-school studios, where the backdrops were seemingly 100 years old and everything smelled just a little bit musty. I didn't care, though - I got to dress up as an angel, a flapper, a mermaid and a princess... and it was heaven. I still have those photos today, and while it's not necessarily the style in which I'd choose to capture my memories in now, I'll treasure them forever - not least because they are what first inspired me to pick up a camera, all those years ago.
I grew up, found new hobbies and built a decade-long career in marketing, but still... the call of my camera was insistent. However, it was only when I had my daughter in 2020 that I became desperate to capture every single molecule of her existence, from the fine peach fuzz that covered her delicate ears, to the way her perfect little fingers would wrap around mine while I was breastfeeding her. After losing my Dad to cancer when I was 19, I knew all too well how fleeting time really is, and I didn't want to miss a thing - so I picked up my camera with a new-found determination, and here we are!
I'm the photographer for you if you're more concerned with capturing authentic moments as they happen, rather than cookie-cutter smiles and stiff poses. I love nurturing genuine connection between my subjects, and enjoy incorporating architecture, music, fashion and the natural environment into my art.
I take a child-first approach to all shoots I do with families; my personal philosophy is that children are humans, not robots, and my job is to capture them as they are, right now. I embrace all the big feelings that children can experience on a shoot, and I want you to lean into them, too. Comfort them if they're overwhelmed. Play with them if they're excited. Relish in their joy and let it spark your own. This is where the magic happens, and these are the moments you'll cherish once they're older and no longer interested in playing 'tickle monster'.
I can't wait to create beautiful memories with you soon!
Jess
