They'll never be this small again.
The milk blister, the flakey skin, the newborn scrunch;
let's capture it all, to cherish forever.

Wrinkled feet, flakey skin, that tiny little milk blister on their top lip... these little newborn details fade so quickly. Let's capture them now, before they disappear - so you can enjoy them forever.

There are so many different types of newborn photography. At Flora Photo Co, I specialise in "lifestyle" newborn photoshoots; this means that I focus on capturing your new family as you are, rather than elaborately staging baby with lots of props and wraps.

Access to my client wardrobe for baby and mama is included in every newborn package.

When should I organise my newborn photoshoot?

what to expect at your newborn photoshoot

I recommend that expecting parents begin to organise their child's newborn photoshoot at the same time that they're booking their own maternity session - around 12 weeks gestation. While it's unlikely that baby will arrive exactly on their due date, most newborn photographers will only take on a certain about of newborn bookings at a time to ensure that they are able to provide flexibility in dates.

What is the best age to have my newborn photographed?

In my opinion, there's no one perfect time to have a newborn photoshoot! Every age and every stage brings with it something special. If you're after those deliciously sleepy, squishy newborn photos, arranging your shoot for when your baby is under two weeks old will help achieve this. If you'd like your baby to be slightly more alert, any time from 2 - 6 weeks of age is a lovely stage to capture. After this age I would recommend doing a standard family photoshoot.

Should I have my newborn photoshoot in the hospital, at home, or outdoors?

Figuring out what memories you are trying to capture can be a helpful first step in deciding where to have your newborn photos taken.

If you'd like your baby photographed at their absolute tiniest and squishiest, a Fresh 48 photoshoot in hospital is a gorgeous way of commemorating this fleeting time in your child's life. If you're more interested in capturing memories in your family home, we can absolutely do that too.

Who can I bring to my baby's photoshoot?

Your immediate family is very welcome to join you for your session - this includes any other children and your pets. Additional family members can be included with advance notice and an additional fee.

How do I choose a newborn photographer near me?

Selecting a newborn photographer in Perth to capture these special memories of your baby can be a tough decision. However, there are a few things to consider that can make the choice easier. The three most important things to consider when choosing your newborn photographer in Perth are:

1) What style of newborn photography would you prefer? Are you more drawn to relaxed, emotional lifestyle images, where you're captured in your own environment and there's no pressure to pose perfectly, or are you coveting those posed-to-perfection newborn photos with lots of props? There are no right answers - just what suits your vision!

2) Do you prefer bright, bold colours or more muted tones? Each newborn photographer in Perth will have their own style of editing. Some will prefer to edit with bold, punchy colours; others may tend towards a light and airy style of editing; and others again may lean towards a moodier, muted vibe. I personally describe my editing style as warm and dreamy: I draw inspiration from the soft, neutral colours of the Australian landscape.

3) From what you’ve seen, do you like your intended photographer as a person? This is, in my opinion, the most important point to consider. Choose a newborn photographer that you trust - it's likely we'll be holding and touching your baby at multiple points throughout your session. My clients regularly say that I feel like part of the family, and I take that as such a compliment.

How should we dress for a newborn photoshoot?

With a newborn photoshoot, I think comfort has to take priority, especially for the postpartum parent and baby! I recommend staying as true as you can to your own personal style, with some allowances for your newly postpartum body. If you're a dress person, you could choose a style with a shirred bodice and a flowing skirt; if you're more comfy in pants, choose a pair that has an elasticated waistband and a relaxed fit.

As for baby, I always suggest having them dressed and ready for their session in a plain white onesie. We'll have time for wardrobe changes over the course of their newborn shoot.

How do I pose during our newborn photoshoot?

It’s natural and expected to be apprehensive and even a little nervous at the thought of having to pose in front of a camera, but with my help, you won’t need to consider how to pose for your newborn photos at all. My style of photography is all about natural connection, genuine emotion, and having fun. I’ll guide you through a range of prompts that will beautifully highlight your connection to your new baby, and the existing members of your family.
