Capturing the moments when
you're between two worlds;
before them, and after.

Having maternity photos taken is a wonderful way of preserving the memories of your life before your new little love arrives, to share with them in the future and treasure for a lifetime.

A Flora Photo Co maternity photoshoot focuses on capturing the wonder of the human body, and the connection between you and your bump (and other family members, if in attendance). This means no awkward poses, no forced smiles and no pressure - just genuine emotion, from the heart.

Access to my wardrobe of designer maternity gowns is included in every maternity package.

When should I organise my pregnancy photoshoot?

what to expect at your maternity photoshoot

I recommend that expecting parents begin to organise their pregnancy photoshoot around 12 weeks gestation - about the same time you’d feel comfortable announcing your pregnancy to your wider network of friends. This gives you four to five months to book with your favourite photographer, source your dream maternity dress, and choose the perfect location.

How pregnant should I be when I have maternity photos taken?

If you’re having a singleton pregnancy, the best time to schedule your maternity photos is when you’re between 30 - 34 weeks gestation. This is the sweet spot, where your bump is round and pronounced, and you’re still able to move around with relative ease. If you’re carrying twins or triplets, scheduling your maternity photoshoot somewhere between 24 - 30 weeks may be more appropriate, depending on your health and comfort.

How do I choose a location for my maternity photos?

When you’re trying to choose a location for your maternity photos that feels most like “you”, the easiest starting point is to consider where you prefer to be: if you had the choice, would you rather have a picnic on the beach, or in a field? Or are you not an outdoors kind of person at all, and would you prefer to spend time inside?

Once you’ve decided on the type of location you’d like to have your maternity photos taken at, then it’s time to decide on the specific spot… and the absolute best way to do this is ask your photographer where they’d recommend. I have a range of outdoor maternity photoshoot locations across the Perth metro area that I regularly shoot at, all offering something unique and beautiful.

Who can I bring to my maternity photoshoot?

This depends on what maternity photo package you have booked with me. The Solo Maternity package is an intimate session just for you, while the Parents-To-Be package allows enough time to include your partner in your session. If you’d like to include the whole family, please book one of my family photoshoot options.

How do I choose a maternity photographer near me?

Choosing a maternity photographer can feel like a tough decision, as there are so many talented maternity photographers here in Perth! However, there are things to consider that can make the choice easier. The three most important things to consider when choosing your maternity photographer in Perth are:

1) What style of maternity photography would you prefer? Are you more drawn to candid, relaxed images where your hair is windswept and the emotion is raw, or would you prefer a more posed, polished, editorial style of photography?

2) Do you prefer bright, bold colours or more muted tones? Each maternity photographer in Perth will have their own style of editing. Some will prefer to edit with bold, punchy colours; others may tend towards a light and airy style of editing; and others again may lean towards a moodier, muted vibe. I personally describe my editing style as warm and dreamy: I draw inspiration from the soft, neutral colours of the Australian landscape.

3) From what you’ve seen, do you like your intended photographer as a person? This is, in my opinion, the most important point to consider. Choose a maternity photographer that makes you feel welcome, relaxed and comfortable. My clients regularly say that my photoshoots feel like hanging out with a friend, and that feedback brings me so much joy and satisfaction! I wholeheartedly believe that, for me to capture the best of you, you need to be comfortable with me - and I do everything I can to ensure that happens.

What do I wear to my outdoor maternity photoshoot?

There are no hard and fast rules to how you must dress for your pregnancy photoshoot - it all depends on what you’re comfortable with, and what look you’re going for. If you’ve booked for an hour shoot, we will usually have time for one to two outfit changes. My favourite maternity photoshoot looks include flowing gowns (included in my client wardrobe), unbuttoned jeans and a bralette, or a bikini with an oversized shirt. If you’re comfortable showing a little more skin, tasteful implied nudity is also an option (i.e. you can be draped in a sheet, or covering your chest with your hands).

How do I pose during my maternity photoshoot?

It’s natural and expected to be apprehensive and even a little nervous at the thought of having to pose in front of a camera, but with my help, you won’t need to consider how to pose for your maternity photos at all. My style of photography is all about natural connection, genuine emotion, and having fun. I’ll guide you through a range of prompts that will beautifully highlight your growing bump, and your connection to any family members that attend.
